Workshops
There are two options available for classes / workshops at Right Off The Batt Pottery.

The first option is called “Play in Clay – Making Island Clay Memories” and can be found at this link _____________.

Your other option is available “off-season” between 16 September and 14 May depending on studio space availability at a rate of $10 per hour per person plus GST, plus any shipping costs that may be involved to get your masterpiece to you.

Looking for the perfect gift for the hard-to-buy-for person on your list? How about a Gift Certificate available in any amount in advance? Gift Certificates are available at the studio whenever we’re open.

The main difference between these two options is that with the “Play in Clay” package you receive “Personalized Instruction” whereas the Off-Season opportunities offer guidance where required. Essentially you are working along side a Full-Time Production Potter in an approximately 1,000 square foot pottery studio.

In Cindy’s own words:

“I offer the opportunity for you to come into my working pottery production studio to work at creating your own piece of hand built functional stoneware pottery. My classes can be taken on a regular basis but what I find to be more desired is just a few hours of your time so I can give you a brief introduction and demonstration of how to hand build. I tend not get people on the potter’s wheel first shot because that can be very frustrating, and in the time required for a beginner to actually make something more than a small and very heavy bowl or shallow ashtray you can make some very nice well built functional pieces by hand.

After some studio introduction and instruction I work with you to determine the type of piece you would like to make. You are welcomed to replicate something that I have here on display but I’d rather inspire you to draw on your own creativity, and then set you loose in the studio to create it. I have plenty of forms, tools and equipment, stamps and fabrics to create texture, and examples of what is possible. The design possibilities are unlimited. Of course I am always close by and observing from a short distance to monitor your progress, assist wherever I can, or answer any of your questions. I find an average of 3 to 4 hours is sufficient to make one or possibly two pieces, then after you leave the studio my staff and I will see your piece through to completion by doing the necessary drying, glazing and firing. The finished product should be ready anywhere from 1 week to 3 weeks depending on my firing schedules.

I ask that you reserve your space in the studio in advance, as we are a working studio. You can come by yourself or with a group. I recently had about 16 people in here when a Grade 12 art class came for a class from 3 Oaks High School in Summerside. My studio is also wheelchair accessible if you and any of your friends have mobility issues.

I target all ages and have done projects with young toddlers right up to adults in their “later” years (I don’t really like to say “old people” even though one day we eventually all become one). No previous pottery experience is required. I only ask for your willingness to learn and allow your creative juices to flow. I take great pleasure in seeing your ideas come to life through this very tactile medium of clay and I find particular satisfaction comes from customers that say “oh I couldn’t possibly make anything because I haven’t got a creative bone in my body”. That’s a challenge I always welcome.”
